As the Data Engineer, this candidate will be proficient in programming languages like Python and SQL, as well as big data technologies like Hadoop and Spark. In this role, the Data Engineer will support the development of the organization's overall data strategy. This will include helping to design the enterprise data architecture, establishing data standards and policies, and supporting data quality and security.
Responsibilities:
- Develops data infrastructure like data lakes and warehouses, ensuring data quality and security, collaborating with data scientists, architects, analysts, to optimize data accessibility.
- Designs, builds, and maintains scalable data systems and pipelines to collect, store, and process data for analysis and reporting
- Helps define the enterprise data strategy, governance, and platform vision while supporting data initiatives with the organizations’ business objectives and long-range goals
- Designs, builds, and maintains robust data pipelines to extract, transform, and load data from various sources into accessible formats
- Research and advises the Government on emerging technologies and their feasibility for improving service delivery or IT capabilities to support customers
- Designs and develops complex data infrastructure. Drive the build-out of modern data ecosystems, such as data lakes, data meshes, and data warehouses, in a cloud-native, hybrid or on-prem environment
- Develops and manages data infrastructure components, including databases, data warehouses, and data lakes, ensuring scalability and reliability
- Implements processes for data cleaning, transformation, and validation to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and compliance with security and privacy policies
- Develops Engineering and Implementation Plans (EIPs). Evaluate and assess EIPs on new and emerging technologies, then present innovative solutions to leadership
- Plans, leads, and/or supports technology pilots to validate proposed designs; provide surge deployment capabilities when a design is accepted for rapid deployment
- Designs solutions to integrate data from various internal and external sources. Ensure data from different systems can be combined effectively to provide a cohesive, unified view
- Assists in developing a Development Operations (DevOps) process combining software development and IT operations into existing Technical Design processes
- Implements Government-approved components into the DevOps process; and build and deploy automation to take advantage of DevOps integration
Required Qualifications/Education and Experience:
- BA/BS (degree in Computer Science/Management preferred) and 5 years of related skills and experience is required
- Must have a Secret clearance and eligibility for Top Secret Security
- Valid SEC+ Certification
- Proficiency in languages such as Python and SQL is crucial
- Expertise in big data technologies like Hadoop and Spark
- Experience with data modeling techniques to design effective data structures
- Familiarity with cloud environments and related tools (e.g., AWS, GCP)
- An in-depth understanding of Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DODAF) Definitions and Guidelines
- Understanding and experience in the analysis and design of integrating government systems
- Experience in Data Engineering tools such as IBM Infosphere, Informatica PowerCenter, Apache Spark
