VMware VDI Senior Engineer

Location: Seoul , South Korea

As the VMware VDI Senior Engineer, this individual will own the architecture, implementation, and operations of a large-scale VDI platform (3,000 users) across multiple geographic locations. The VDI platform is built on VMware horizon, integrated with Active Directory, secured and segmented with NSX-T. In this role, the individual will operate, upgrade, maintain, but also lead design reviews for expansion or enhancements as requested by the customer.

Responsibilities:

  • Designs architecture with hands-on experience with active/active data centers and Active Directory domains in support of 3,000 users
  • Maintains, updates, and deploys App Volumes and Dynamic Environment Manager in a multi-site active/active data center environment
  • Maintains, updates, and deploys Unified Access Gateway in a multi-site active/active datacenter environment
  • Maintains consistent RADIUS authentication across multiple datacenters and target environments
  • Conducts regular training workshops for NSX-T concepts such as basic consumption, monitoring, troubleshooting, and platform maintenance
  • Maintains, updates, and deploys using on-premises VMware Horizon pods across multiple datacenters.
  • Maintains, updates, and deploys consistent User Profiles with DEM with Active Directory across multiple datacenters and DEM instances
  • Maintains, updates, and deploys Horizon Tru Single Sign On (SSO) capabilities using Active Directory and multiple Horizon Pods
  • Leverages desktop virtualization foundation and RDSH servers and server farms to create published applications
  • Leverages desktop virtualization foundation to create consistent virtual desktop pools using master system images and profile containers (FSLogix)
  • Leverages Active Directory certificate management to ensure smart-card access to virtual desktops
  • Creates consistent application packages across multiple sites using writeable volumes and AppStacks
  • Implements NSX-T logical segments, routing and distributed gateway firewalls, and micro-segmentation for VDI pools and management planes
  • Capacity planning and management of CPU/RAM/IOPS/GPU, size pools, and tuning protocols (Blast Extreme) to optimize user experience
  • Drives patching/upgrades for Horizon, ESXi NSX-T, Windows images, and agents with documented back-out plans
  • Coordinates with customer with upgrade risks and mitigation planning
  • Leads DR/BCP for VDI, run failover tests, and maintain runbooks and topology/as-built documentation
  • Enforces security baselines where required (DOD STIGS), maintain least-privilege RBAC, certificate management, and vulnerability remediation

Required Qualifications/Education and Experience:

  • HS Education or Higher
  • Must maintain a Secret or Top Secret Clearance
  • 7+ years as a Sr. systems VDI and Virtualization Engineer with 3+ years leading VMware Horizon at an enterprise level
  • Must have two certifications: CompTIA Security +, and a VCP-DTM
  • Must have or be able to obtain Level III IAT – CASP, CCNP Security, CISA, CISSP, GCED, GCIH, CCSP and VDI Certified -Data Center Virtualization – (VCP-DCV)
  • Must have hands-on experience with Horizon Architecture (UAG, Connection Server, App Volumes, DEM), image optimization, and profile management
  • Strong troubleshooting across the stack (endpoint -> VDI session -> hypervisor->storage->network/security)
  • Strong Active Directory knowledge of GPOs, Certification Management, Role Based Access Control
  • Hands-on experience with applying DISA STIGs to VMware Horizon, VDI, and virtualized applications and architectures

Preferred Qualifications/Education and Experience.

  • Scripting capabilities PowerShell/PowerCLI (and optionally Ansible/Terraform), including image lifecycle, pool provisioning, and compliance checks
  • Microsoft Certified Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate (AZ-800/801) and/or Identity & Access Administrator (SC-300)
  • VCDX
